Description
Glasgow’s White City Stadium was one of British speedway’s key venues from when the sport started in 1928 until 1968, when the Glasgow Tigers moved as the Stadium faced potential demolition.
This book covers the full history of the Glasgow Tigers – and briefly Lions – at White City. It recalls some of the legendary riders who rode for the Tigers before and after the Second World War, including Billy Galloway, Will Lowther, Junior Bainbridge, Tommy Miller and Ken McKinlay. In more recent times, Jim McMillan and Charlie Monk were the Tigers’ big stars in the period covered by this book.
As well as a detailed account of each season, there are also profiles of all the post-war Glasgow Tigers riders up to 1968 and statistical records.
Well-illustrated, the book includes forewords by Jim McMillan and Bert Harkins, who was a childhood Tigers fan.
The author, Jim Henry, is a life-long speedway fan, and has written widely on the sport.
